From March 2017 Electra Energy Cooperative is one of the Participant Entities in the citizenship’s wind power project of EOLPOP SL!

A participation of Electra of 1 share = 700 € (to generate 1,000 kWhs/year, for 20 years)  Joining the project “Living the air of the sky (viure de l’aire)”, which promotes the installation of an Enercon E-103 EP2 wind turbine of 2,35MW in the rural town of Pujalt (Anoia, Catalunya, Spain).

Viure del Aire is first community wind project in Spain. The project is located in Pujalt, close to Barcelona. Although the wind turbine does not benefit from any subsidies or a feed-in premium, Som Energia pushed through. The project is financed by Viure de l’Aire del Cel, a cooperative owned by Eolpop. Som Energia provided Viure del Aire with a EUR 1 million loan so that it could get the wind turbine operational. After raising the funds from local citizens, the loan will be paid back. Have a look at the website of Eolpop to learn more about this community-owned wind project.

Last March 10, 2009 was the 25th anniversary of the public opening of the first modern wind turbine, connected to the grid in Catalonia. (Press clipping PDF)

To celebrate this event, the local branch of Eurosolar – European Association for Renewable Energies) launched a pioneering initiative in our country: Living from the air of the sky. It involves the installation of a wind turbine of shared ownership among citizens who voluntarily provide the money needed to realize the project.

To develop the project it was set Eolpop SL, a small private company which is responsible for promoting and carrying out the project and responsible for issuing participatory accounts that enable shared ownership of the turbine.

Eolpop has found a suitable location (good wind, easy access and proximity to the grid medium voltage), has commissioned the project, has reached an agreement with the owners of the land and with the town council and is managing the necessary permits and has chosen the model of wind-turbine.
