In 2018, with the support of donors and the collaboration of the Greek NGO Solidarity Now, Electra Energy co-granted the creation of a plastic re-cycling lab in an educational center in the center of Athens. The project was branded as “Bye-Plastic” and resulted in the capacitation and training of refugees that followed several workshops and seminars between June and September of 2018.
The two organizations employed the group of designers “Precious Plastic Greece”, a local group of the global movement “Precious Plastic” in order to design and construct the lab.
The lab was designed to recycle different plastic materials and composed of a set of three main technology elements: a plastic shredder, a melter injector and a special oven for the final production.
Precious Plastic was started by Dave Hakkens in 2013. By now, the project counts on the contributions of dozens of people joining the project with their skills and knowledge.
Electra Energy and Solidarity Now envisioned the idea of supporting the skilling and exchange of knowledge between startups and unemployed or motivated individuals, while boosting the reduction and reusing of plastic in our urban areas.
