ALTHEA
Super Living Labs for Integrated peri-urban areas in the transition towards climate neutrality
DURATION: 2025 – 2028
FUNDED BY: Horizon Europe
COORDINATOR: Regione Lombardia
ALTHEA is a pioneering European project focusing on accelerating the transition to climate neutrality in cities through the integration of community energy and smart mobility solutions. Focusing on the concept of Transition Super Living Labs (TSLL), the project tests innovative models for shared, clean transportation and local energy production.
In the Ioannina-Epirus pilot, Electra Energy leads the social and community governance of the project. Our work focuses on:
- Establishment of an Energy Community: Creating a local legal entity (Renewable Energy Community) to manage shared assets and distribute benefits fairly among citizens.
- Community-based EV Sharing: Developing a car-sharing scheme managed by the energy community to provide clean mobility in peri-urban areas.
- Inclusivity Baseline Toolkit: Developing a “social filter” to ensure that the energy projects are inclusive to vulnerable or underrepresented groups.
- Smart Energy Management: Linking local industrial production with community energy to optimize local consumption and reduce costs.
Through ALTHEA, we aim to prove that the green transition is not just a technical challenge, but a social opportunity to build stronger, more inclusive communities.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 101189678.
